Jon Sievert was the staff photographer, writer, and editor for Guitar Player, Keyboard, and Frets magazines for more than twenty years. During that period, and in subsequent years, he photographed and interviewed some of the greatest musicians of our time. His images have appeared on more than a hundred magazine covers, several hundred album/CD covers, in film and television productions, and in hundreds of books and publications worldwide. Many of his images can be viewed on his website, www.humblearchives.com.
His interview subjects include Les Paul, Jerry Garcia, George Benson, Doc Watson, Joe Pass, David Grisman, Tony Rice, Roy Clark, John Cipollina, Bill Wyman, Lee Ritenour, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Norman Blake, Sam Bush, Jerry Douglas, Mark O'Connor, Carl Perkins, Steve Miller, Marty Stuart, Albert Lee, Led Kaapana, Tal Farlow, Ronnie Montrose, Vince Gill, and Buck Owens.
As a Pure Guitar contributing editor, he plans to update and rework some of those interviews and provide photo galleries with essays on the some of the hundreds of artists he photographed during his thirty years in the music business.
In 1996, Jon formed humble press (www.humblepress.com) to publish his book, Concert Photography: How to Shoot and Sell Music Business Photographs, which has sold more than 5,000 copies to date. He also served as the president of the (San Francisco) Bay Area Independent Publishers Association for two years, where he was actively involved in all aspects of independent book publishing.
Jon and his wife, Wendy, "retired" to San Miguel de Allende in central Mexico in 2003, where he continues to stay fully wired to the world via the magic of the internet, work on a couple of book projects, and enjoy the rich culture and sense of community in one of the most beautiful cities in the world.
