Pure Guitar staff photographer Max Crace's warm, stunning photographs and graphic
designs have graced the covers of many albums, magazines, and music books. Equally
adept with the paintbrush and pencil, his work has been featured in many histories of
World War II and the Vietnam War as well as numerous aviation publications. Max's
distinctive sense of photography and design is readily familiar to viewers of guitar themed ads – Fender, Roland, Gretsch, Gibson, Marshall and GHS Strings are among his
clients. Max's first assignments for us included the cover artists and cover-story galleries
of Issues #1 and #2.
Max began playing drums while in grade school and was playing gigs by the age of 13.
He came to Austin as a working musician in 1980 and later became a recording engineer,
producer, and studio owner, recording many renowned artists over a period of 15+ years.
Max closed his recording studio in 2004 and chose to go forward solely as a visual artist.
Since then, he's worked primarily within the music industry, either directly for artists
and record labels, or for musical instrument and equipment manufacturers. His work
– including spectacular images of Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood, Joe Satriani, Jeff
Beck, Eric Johnson, Steve Lukather, Carlos Santana, John 5, Billy Gibbons and many,
many others – can be viewed online at www.maxcrace.com.
